Process control for zero-defect laser beam welding of contaminated steel sheets

Nowadays contaminated steel sheets can only be laser-welded under high economical and technical efforts. To ensure a high stiffness of the steel sheets at the laser beam welding for the automotive industry, it is advantageous to join the steels sheets adhesively by line-welding on lap joint with zero-gap. Previously not removed fat, oil or contaminations vaporize, before the base material melts. This leads to an explosively exhausting under insufficient degassing possibility, resulting in imperfections, pores or spillings.
