Integrated assembly and laser soldering system with process escorting quality assurance

A production of electronic boards with a zero defect-rate is not attainable still in today?s electronic manufacturing. Boards with defect solder joints or defect components will often be recirculated to a manual rework process, in which the quality and the economical load are depending on quality of personal and system. Within this research project therefore the technological basics of a combined system for assembly and a laser based rework process are investigated. The main examinations are system and process technical nature with the centre in the automation of the different processes. Information about defect pictures IPC-A-610 as well as information about real defects on the electronic board in kind and position allows generating specific laser based rework strategies, handling and soldering or desoldering programs. The done analyses with this system are showing promising results for an automated laser based rework process with a good reachable quality of reworked soldering joints.
