Integral materials concepts and system solutions for mechatronic applications

The increasing use of electronics and miniaturization of products of most diverse industries requires innovative development concepts with the structure of new building groups and function modules. A promising solution arises as a result of the development of so-called mechatronic systems. New materials developments place new tasks to the joining technology, particularly the laser welding. A goal of the scientific investigations is the qualification of the laser plastics welding for the thermoplastics and thermoplastic elastomers examined in the cooperative project. Joining differently high-filled thermoplastics in the laser transmission and butt welding process by means of diode laser 808 nm to 980 nm and as alternative also by means of solid state laser 1064 nm represents the laser-technical emphasis in the subproject. Very small optical penetrating and/or penetration depths for the laser radiation forces to realize adapted joining geometries and an optimized constructional organization of the construction units around a nevertheless good welding quality.
