Constitutive Friction Law for the Description and Optimisation of Tailored Surface

Project Status: finished

Members

Within the collaboration project between the Chair of Applied Mechanics (LTM) and the LFT the investigation of the tribological conditions for sheet-bulk metal forming in general, the realization of Tailored Surfaces and the development of a constitutive friction law has been done. At the LFT the tribological conditions in sheet-bulk metal forming were investigated and described. Using selected friction tests it was possible to investigate the appearing load conditions typical for sheet-bulk metal forming under laboratory conditions and to determine friction values for FE-simulation. Also suited lubricants for sheet-bulk metal forming were choosen. The defined alteration of friction and thus the control of material flow was another focus of research within this project. Geometrically defined roughened areas of workpiece surfaces showed to be a useful instrument for the determined increase in friction at certain areas. In laboratory tests as well as in first forming tests the efficiency of Tailored Surfaces has been proved.
