Controlled Stretchbending of Aluminium Extrusions

The objective of this project was the development of a control circuit in order to increase the low reproducibility at stretch bending of aluminium extrusions. During the last 6 month of the project a control concept has been implemented allowing the direct determination of the optimal controlled variable directly from the measured data of the running process. An improvement of the reproducibility of a factor of at least 2 could have been yielded in comparision to the uncontrolled process. Finally examinations as for the transferability of the control strategy onto different extrusion cross sections and bending contures have been evaluated. The figure gives the transfer function for some four different bending tasks, showing that springback can be influenced to a more than sufficient extent by means of a variation of the axiale tensile stress being impinged upon the extrusion.
