To face the overall aim, the reduction of CO2 emissions of modern cars, the realisation of innovative car body lightweight design by use of hydroformed blank structures is persued with this project. If the number of parts can be reduced by integration of several functions within one part, a high lightweight grade can be reached. This leads to a higher part complexity. One focus of the LFT-activities is the investigation of active counter punch cocepts to support the forming of branches. Possibilities to influence the part properties can be found by experiments and FE-simulations. To interpret simulation results in a correct way, the occur-ance of non-linear strain paths has to be taken into consideration. Therefore the practical use of forming limit stress diagrams and the use of modified strain based forming limit diagrams that consider the preforming steps are under investigation.
