Investigation of the achievable mechanical properties of aluminium alloys during laser-induced heating

Laser forming is an innovative forming process for production of prototypes and small series productions. Its potentials are part of research activities for many years. The operating prin-ciple of laser forming is based on induction of thermal stresses caused by laser line heating. On the one hand identification of forming mechanisms and possibilities as well as techno-logical applications have to be investigated, on the other investigation concerning influences of the thermo-mechanical heat treatment on the formed materials are significant. Analysis of short-term metallurgical effects are the main task of this project. Description and modeling of influences on materials properties as a consequence of laser line heating is done for different laser systems, sheet thicknesses and forming mechanisms.
