Systematics of the extended characterisation of advanced and ultra high strength automotive steels

Project Status: finished


The project is running in partnership with the AUDI AG as an INI.FAU cooperation. The intention is the application of advanced characterisation methods at high strength steel grades. Currently the workability of these grades cannot be fully ensured by the conventional characterisation methods in a sufficient way. Bending loads could not be determined for example by tensile test and forming-limit-curve – although components consist of higher strength steels are often exposed on bending-dominant plastic forming. Several test methods are used to detect the forming capacity adequate and to utilise the potential of new steel grades. Furthermore the knowledge should be integrated into the post processing of forming simulation. This can be achieved by compare the critical stresses on test specimens and on components within the simulation.
