Description of the mechanical material behavior of quenchenable ultra high strength steels within hot sheet metal forming

The aim of the subproject SP1 of the delocalized research unit 552 foundet by the German Research Foundation DFG is in the second runtime besides the determination of the thermal and tribological properties the description of the mechanical material behavior of the quenchenable boron-manganese steel 22MnB5. Herefore the focus is among others on the flow behavior in dependency of the for the hot forming relevant temperature range and up to a strain rate of 10. Furthermore the option to be capable to perform mechanical material tests in a Gleeble 3500 system (Dynamic systems Inc.), acquired within the scope of the excellence cluster, enables the determination of the flow behavior of the boron manganese steel 22MnB5 in the state of compression following the time temperature profile of the hot stamping process. For the compression layer test, specimens out of piled sheet metal blanks had been heated up to 950 °C, austenitized and after a quenching operation tested isothermal in a range of 500 °C and 850 °C.
