Optimised Pulse Formation for Laser Welding of Copper-Alumimium-Joints with Metallic Coatings

Aluminium is an inexpensive and weight-reducing alternative to copper for many applications in electronics and electrical engineering. There is, however, a lack of reliable joining techniques for aluminium and copper that prevents a broad use of this material combination: conventional substance-to-substance bonding processes can hardly be used, due to the physical and metallurgical incompatibility of the two materials. It is therefore necessary to adapt existing laser joining processes for welding aluminium with copper.
