Determination and optimization of functional 3D-surface parameters for metal forming

The manufacturing of complex automotive car body parts poses increasingly higher requirements regarding economy, productivity and quality. In this context, sheet metal surface structures, as a result of their more favorable tribological conditions, offer the possibility of producing excellent deep drawing results in the case of high batch sizes, as well as high quality with improved process stability. Such surfaces with stochastic or deterministic structures, however, cannot be appropriately described with the standardized 2D-surface parameters available today. Therefore, car manufacturers are very interested in 3D-surface parameters, which clearly classify the topography of the sheet metal surface without ambiguity. In the range of this project, characterising parameters depending on practical measuring parameters are developed and optimized for industrial use through the application and comparison of different surface measuring devices.
