Material and process engineering aspects of welding plastic micro parts by means of laser radiation

In the context of this research project seam widths smaller 50 µm are to be realized by means of laser beam micro plastics welding. Besides the analysis of differences between part-crystalline and amorphous polymer materials and effects by additives, also different laser ra-diation sources diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser, diode laser are subsections of the investiga-tions. The precise and locally limited energy delivery is an important condition for smallest seams. Beam formation and the detection of the thermal radiation emerging during the weld-ing processes with the help of a thermal image camera are the bases to gain more detailed insight into process to make it influenceable or controllable.
