Metal Forming of Microparts Micro Sheet Metal Working

The trend towards miniaturization is still unfailing. Therefore, there is a demand for smaller and smaller metallic parts. Microforming is a technology that enables an economic production of such parts. Having investigated micro blanking and bending processes so far, the obtained knowledge will applied to the deep drawing process, which has a more complex strain. Furthermore, the anisotropy of the working material is more important. Deep drawing tests are carried out within the project, varying the sheet thickness within the range of 20 µm to 0.2 mm and the cup diameter between 1 mm and 10 mm. The tests shall help to determine the ideal die clearance and to select suited lubricants, for example. The drawn cups are measured optically by a confocal microskope, which means contactless.
