Simulation based optimisation of the accuracy of sheet metal bending parts caused by the manufacturing plan

Through the employment of modern information technologies methods and powerful computers problems that only had empirical solutions can now be tackled based on calculations. In this research project a monte-carlo simulation system is being used. The simulation model represents the influences on the resulting bending angle in sheet metal bending phenomenologically. The effects of single deviations in handling and bending on the workpiece geometry taking into account the effects of error propagation is calculated. With this tool alternative manufacturing plans consisting of machine allocation, stopping edge definition and bending stage plan can be evaluated according to the process capability index Cpk resulting from their application. An optimisation of the expected accuracy of the sheet metal bending application is thus possible.
