Closed Loop Micro-Processing with Laser Radiation - Quality Control

Contacts and contacting geometries in electronic production due to strict miniaturization are getting incessantly smaller. An exact positioning of electronic components in all space direc-tions is very relevant in micro joining. On the other hand the stability of the interconnections during the laser beam micro joining depends strongly on the deviations in the focus position of laser beam and power density distribution on the workpiece. This can lead to errors in the joints. In order to eliminate such joining situations, in this project a combined autofocus system is developed, which allows the defined alignment of the focus position on the workplace. The system set-up is laid out in this way, that the information about the focus position is taken up by two independent detectors CCD camera and on-axis Ge diode. This information is ana-lyzed with different focus evaluation algorithms and used with a fast focus search algorithm for the readjustment of the focus position. The autofocusing occurs in real time.
