Microbending and Precision Straightening by Pulsed UV Laser Radiation

for micro scale bending using an incremental forming process. Thus the accurate manipula-tion of functional components in electronic or opto-electronic devices can be achieved as well as the generation of larger scale angles in micro scale blanks. Two analytical models attempt dot describe the purely thermally induced Excimer laser beam bending process. When using relatively high fluencies these models no longer properly describe the process as melting and even ablation may occur at the surface irradiated. Thus raising the laser fluency does not necessarily lead to larger bending angles. A qualitative process model describes the mechanisms and effects involved. The knowledge basis provided within this work and the two analytical models provide good appliances for the process design of Excimer laser beam bending.
