Improvement of time dependent methods for the evaluation of the forming limit curve and the derivation of a virtual simple model

Project Status: finished


The aim of the research project is the development of a universal time dependent method for the determination of the forming limit curve in sheet metal forming processes. An innovative approach based on the existing time dependent methods will be developed in order to evaluate the onset of necking during the Nakajima test. Furthermore, this optimized evaluation method will be implemented in a numerical model to achieve a purely numeric estimation of the forming limit curves. Within this context, the quality and accuracy of the available material data for the prediction of the local instability will be significantly improved. Consequently, small and midsize industries will be able to perform a realistic simulative analysis of forming processes.

 The project is in cooperation with the Institute of Metal Forming and Casting of the Technical University of Munich.
