Development of a methodology for simulation-based determination of material parameters for the forming and heat treatment simulation of steel materials

The numerical simulation of complex heat treatment processes essentially depends on the quality of the used material imput parameters. In particular, the description of phase transitions by time-temperature-transformation-diagrams (TTT-diagrams) is crucial for the calculation of the material properties. To show the influences of batch variations, as well as the deformation history of the material, a first attempt was to develop an experimental method for the determination of TTT diagrams and TTT diagrams of preformed specimens. Based on the aquired findings and on empirical calculation models, a method is developed which can depict the transformation  behavior with sufficient accuracy and reduced testing effort. This can significantly improve the simulative design of heat treatment processes.
