Hot stamping of tailor welded blanks

At the Chair of Manufacturing Technology within the project P709 founded by the FOSTA the forming technology of hot stamping of tailor welded blanks base on the Al/Si precoated materials 22MnB5 and H340LAD is basically investigated. One main objective of project is to evaluate the influence of the chosen position of the welding seam in the initial blank on the resulting location and quality of the welding seam in the final hot stamped component. This should be done by means of finite element analysis FEA. Therefore the characterization of mechanical properties of two base materials as well as of the welding seam at elevated temperatures represents an essential requirement. For this purpose hot flow curves of the welding seam and the both sheet metal materials 22MnB5 and H340LAD, as exemplarily shown in picture 1, had been determined by using a modified Gleeble 1500 system.
