Sheet hydroforming of friction stir welded hybrids composed of steel and aluminium - Hydroforming

The aim of the project was to reduce the tooling costs in cold forging processes through the increase of tool life and also the reduction of its scatter. For this purpose Strength-versus-Load concept, consisting of a deterministic and statistical analysis of load and strength, has been improved within the project. The deterministic component is given by the numerical process simulation in conjunction with the modelling of specific failure mechanisms, whereas the stochastic phenomena are taken into account by applying statistical methods in MATLAB. Regarding the main objective of the project, stochastically relevant primary parameters have been identified and monitored for pre-selected case inner race, FE simulations of the pro-duction process have been performed and the results have been combined with monitored parameter scatter, distribution functions of load and strength have been determined and further used in interference analysis, which yielded accurate prediction of tool lifetime scatter.
