Sheet metal forming processes such as bending and deep drawing may basically also be used for the forming of metallic foils. The reduction of the thickness of the material, however, is associated with size effects. This is the reason why the know-how of sheet metal forming cannot be directly transferred to the more specific area of foil forming. Therefore, basic research is required to investigate these size effects in order to provide basic knowledge for the design of the process and of the components respectively.
