Detection of the process window for hot stamping of high strength heat-treatable steels at elevated temperatures

In the process of hot stamping a blank is austenized at about 900°C and directly transferred into the tool. Advantage is taken of the comparably low flow stress due to the high tempera-ture. Because of the established contact to the cold tool a rapid cooling of the blank takes place, which leads to a fully martensitic phase structure with a component strength of up to 1500 MPa. Applications for these kinds of parts can be found in the car body as A-, B-, or C-pillars and bumper.
