The aim of this research project ist further develoment of the " Laser Droplet Weld " -process and the qualification for different joining applications and materials of medical technology. Development of new materials is a permanent necessity for medical technology. Adapt join-ing technologies are necessary to produce sterile medical instruments or bio-compatible im-plants. The advantages of this joining technology like low thermal stress and the possibility to bridge gaps are important for the joining of medical components. The "Laser Droplet Weld" uses laser pulses to melt a thin metal wire. An emerging small metal droplet connects the joining partners fast and accurate without thermal damaging. The following cross section shows two titan wires that are joint with an titan droplet.Titan is a frequently used material for implants which is difficult to weld, because of its high affinity to oxygen. The Laser Droplet Welding could be realised without problems.
