Integration and Qualification of low-heat Joining and Cutting Processes for Aluminium Foam Sandwich AFS into existing Process Sequences

Within the scope of this project joining and cutting technologies for the cellular material AFS are developed towards their industrial applicability. At LFT investigations on Nd:YAG laser beam welding and cutting as well as Friction Stir Welding FSW are performed. In the last year the reasons for the burr formation during laser beam cutting could be determined. Subsequently different strategies for an optimization of the cutting results were carried out. A first characterization of the quality of laser welded joints of AFS with Aluminum profile materials was accomplished. The construction of the FSW facility could be completed. Furthermore sensors for the measurement of process forces were integrated into the tool unit. In the future this setup shall be upgraded towards an online process control.
