Influence of a pre-punched hole on bending dominated forming processes

The goal of the project was the detailed analysis of the influence and the impact of pre-punched steel and aluminum sheets on subsequent forming operations, which are characterised by bending dominated loading conditions as well as by deep and stretch drawing operations. Especially a resulting failure of the sheet materials was of particular interest. The damage characteristics, which are caused by the pre-punched hole in the forming zone, in the different forming processes were investigated by a systematic approach. Additionally the finite element method was used in order to identify and analyse significant process parameters on the forming and damage behaviour of the processes without the pre-punched hole and to predict occurring damage and failure, which are caused by the pre-punched hole, in dependency of the loading condition.
