Project Status: Active
Objective of the subproject A2 is a fundamental analysis of the effects and interactions between the workpiece and the forming zone in sheet-bulk metal forming. Investigations on a gear forming process with good oil-based lubrication have shown that an underfilling of the top land of the teeth is inevitable. An improvement of the form filling by increasing the punch stroke is not possible for this sheet-bulk metal forming process. Due to the fact that the inner area of the punch is already in contact to the blank at the bottom dead center a further movement would lead to a huge increase of the forming force. Thus, different methods for flow control of the material have been investigated in the context of the research project. The implementation of flow restrictions and the realization of locally-adapted tribological zones have been approved as an appropriate way for flow control.
